Akamai's network is one of the world's largest distributed-computing platforms, responsible for serving between 15 and 30 percent of all web traffic. The company operates a network of servers around the world and rents capacity on these servers to customers who want their websites to work faster by distributing content from locations close to the user.

After years of add-ons and patchwork, Akamai's website had developed a disorienting architecture and a fragmented visual system that was in need of repair. The website redesign required a full audit of all page layouts and a new design vernacular that could be applied uniformly across the entire site. The final output was a clean and consistent aesthetic that accommodated for the wide variety of content structures found throughout the site.
